Through March
As part of the Lodi Reads Leopold celebration, from now through the end of
March the Lodi Woman’s Club Library is hosting a collection of editorial,
conservation cartoons by J.N. “Ding” Darling, a friend, contemporary and fellow
visionary of Aldo Leopold. Stop in at the library and learn about another
conservation pioneer.

The Greatest Good: A U.S. Forest Service Centennial Film
6:30-8:30 at the Lodi Woman’s Club Library
Free and open to the public
Whether it is the protection of endangered species or meeting the needs of a
growing public, the fate of public lands is constantly challenged by the
constraints of democracy. Visionary foresters Gifford Pinchot and Aldo Leopold
shaped the debate over land stewardship for a hundred years. Their journey from
the “wise use” of resources to the idea of a “land ethic” has defined the
evolution of the Forest Service and the management of National Forests and
Grasslands. In a breathtaking high definition documentary, The Greatest Good
takes the audience on a journey as compelling as it is uniquely American.
Saturday, March 7, 2009
The first full weekend in March has been commemorated by the Wisconsin State
Legislature and Governor James Doyle as Aldo Leopold Weekend, a time to
celebrate the life and works of this Wisconsin conservation leader. The
legislation for Aldo Leopold Weekend grew out of the Lodi Reads Leopold event
that began in March of 2000.
Lodi Reads Leopold continues this year with an all-day event on Saturday,
March 7th. The schedule and contact information follows. The readings and
community forum are free and will take place at the Lodi Woman’s Club Public
Library, 130 Lodi Street in Lodi. A free will monetary donation is requested for
the lunch, with all donations to be given to the Lodi Food Pantry. Lunch will be
served at the Masonic Lodge on First Street, just across from the post office.

impact the local economy. This promises to be an informative and
